Endoscopic Procedures

Endoscopy enables veterinarians to examine internal organs and structures using a long, flexible tube equipped with a light and a camera. Its applications include gastrointestinal, respiratory, and urinary tract examinations, among others.

An endoscope is a medical instrument used for examining the interior of a hollow organ or cavity of the body. It is used to examine the inside of the ears, nose, esophagus, colon, bladder, stomach, and other internal organs.

Endoscopy is a safe procedure and is more likely to be recommended rather than invasive surgery.

Procedures performed with Endoscope:

Gastrointestinal Endoscopy: a minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedure used to examine the gastrointestinal tract allowing the veterinarians to visualize the interior of the digestive system. It is most commonly used for obtaining biopsies and the removal of foreign bodies.

Rhinoscopy: Rhinoscopy is a diagnostic tool used to examine the nasal passages and sinus cavities. It aids in diagnosing conditions such as nasal polyps, tumors, and infections.

Otoscopy: Otoscopy involves the examination of the ear canal and eardrum using an otoscope. It helps diagnose ear infections, ear mites, foreign bodies, and other ear-related issues.

Laparoscopic spaying is unlike traditional spaying where a larger incision is made to remove the uterus and ovaries, laparoscopic spaying involves making a few small incisions (usually less than an inch long) through which specialized surgical instruments and a camera are inserted.

Benefits of Endoscope procedures:

  • Minimally invasive: Reduces the need for large surgical incisions.

  • Accurate diagnosis: Provides clear, magnified views of internal structures.

  • Reduced recovery time: Pets often recover faster with fewer complications compared to traditional surgical methods.
